| Prologue- It's been a year since we have seen our fellow Hawgs. Well for most of us, anyway. Mary came down to Texas to ride the Easter Hill Country Tour with Norm and Dave in March. And, as it turned out, it was a harbinger to the Ragbrai with 85 degree temperatures and some much needed rain. | |
| Maybe next year, we can get some more of the Hawgs to come and join us in this great trainer for the Ragbrai. And with the bus in absolute perfect shape, maybe Larry will bring everybody down to the Lone Star State. Hmmm. | |
And, speaking of the Hawg bus, the buzz as we waited for the Hawg bus to come for loading was, "what color is it this year?" We still have the adventure fresh in our minds of last year when the police officer stopped us for impersonating a school bus. We were delighted to notice as the bus approached that it is now painted in multi colors, a two tone grey with "porta potty blue!"Getting to Western Iowa was less of an adventure and more comfortable since it was finally hot enough to use the wonderful AC that the Hawg bus has to offer, with the temperatures of 102 degrees.

Sunday- As all Ragbrai veterans know, it's Ragbrai tradition to start the ride with the rear tire in the Missouri River and at the end with the front tire in the Mississippi. But there are two problems- First, it's the Little Sioux on the Western boundary this far North, and 2nd, it's quite a haul to the Little Sioux from Le Mars, the staging town for the tour. The fire department pledges that they will have a tanker there pumping water which they filled at the river. Do you think they really did that, or did they sleep in and use tap water? Did anyone see any fish flopping on the pavement?

| On a note of Hawg interest, we don't talk politics much in the Hawgs because we all wish to remain friends, and of course most states knew right away who they wanted for president. But there are a few that let us know how they feel. Apparently Tara needed to be reminded who our president is and received a nice ornament on her handlebars this morning. I don't think that W rode with her all day. | |
| At the exact time that Lance Armstrong is finishing his last Tour de France, prominading down the Champs elysées, we depart Le Mars via the Chomp d' Ice Cream. The temperature is forecast to be a bit hot with the high at 91, and we have 65 miles to go. Tune in...We'll keep you posted and get you some pics. | |
