Independence to Dyersville- 63.2 miles with 1499 ft of climb.

Pass through towns are Winthrop, Lamont, Dundee, Manchester, and Earlville..

Conditions- Misty AM, cool with North winds—A Great thing!  Tailwinds!

Last night, we had rain…. Lots of rain.  For you campers, you know it’s nasty.  So we were busy battening down the hatches and went to bed at about 10:30 to prepare for our 6 AM start.  In the morning, it was incredibly cool and crisp and we were ready to load the bus and go.  We realized that this is our last full day of riding.  Where has this week gone?  Our early start put us on the road with a full pack.  We’ve got to tell you, Lamont did not listen to the register.  They were not ready for us.  The only bike friendly breakfast available was breakfast burritos and we were there early.  When we got to the head of the line, they crossed off the word “egg” on the menu, so our breakfast was a tortilla with sausage and cheese.  Some of us got sick.

Manchester was a great town.  It’s pretty incredible   In Manchester,  banjo player welcomed us.  They were ready and it was an incredible town!  But our stay tonight is in Dyersville.  The movie “Field of Dreams” was filmed there.  Some of our Hawgs journeyed to the filming site.  Janelle is going into the corn.  We’re not sure of the purpose of this visit, but note that she’s smiling on her way out.  They built it and they came!  And Hawg Rebecca played on the field and hit a single.  Some of the other Hawgs were at the field as well.

Meanwhile, I went to the Basilica in Dyersville.  The Air Force brass quartet was performing a concert in memory of lost soldiers.  It was very moving.

And as the sun sets, Kristen and our hosts get ready to go to town.

So tomorrow, we will hit the road one last time to Bellevue and dip our tires in the Mississippi River.  Thanks for visiting!
