Rock Rapids to Spencer- 77.6 miles with 1599 ft of climb.

Pass through towns are George, Ashton, Melvin, Hartley, and Moneta.

Conditions- Flat to gently rolling hills- high mileage- kindof hot- Oh yeah- headwinds.

PROLOGUE- After arriving early to the departure town, Rock Rapids, Guido and Lee found a pretty good spot for camping with high speed internet and electricity so that we could prepare your report.  Our family joined Guido and Lee soon thereafter and dropped us off.  The Hawg bus arrived several hours later and stalled in some traffic right in the street in front of the campsite, blocking traffic.  Someone said, “How’s this?” and they unloaded.  The bus was later fixed and parked.  Although, the town was just starting to receive the throngs of 10,000 visitors, a special bike was giving tours to visitors.  Check this out!

Our campsite was a bit crowded as they all are.  We then visited the beverage garden where the entertainment was loud late into the night.

DAY 1—We got up early, loaded the Hawg Bus with our gear and were on the road Sunday morning at 6 AM.  Breakfast was in George where we had Belgian waffles at the fire station.  The workers really had their act together with the waffle makers, probably 50 of them of the type that you see at the Motels that flip over.  They fed us quickly.  That’s a real plus!

The highway was crowded as we began our journey.  Early into the trip, we spotted Tiny, a Ragbrai fixture.

The ride was long, but went well.  Kristen and Anna, decided to try out the trampoline at a nearby backyard.

We got into Spencer and had dinner at Hy-Vee.  This was a plus.  They had everything!  Later, we saw parachutes over the fairgrounds had to walk all the way back to the campground.
