Ruckus

This is not exactly a wind resistant
bug, but when you need a ruckus on the surface to bring the big ones
up to strike, this is the bug to do it.
Hook: 7957B size 2 - 6
Body: Deer hair, natural
Thread: Kevlar
If you have ever spun deer hair, this
one is easy. Attach the thread at the tail position and spin the deer
hair forward. I like the natural colors, and of course, it should be
a northern deer in winter coat to assure that the hair is hollow for
proper spinning and floatation. When you have a full ball, trim to an
ellipsoid (oval) shape except for a few strands at the tail and the
forward pointing hairs along the sides (do trim the top and bottom of
the front section). The tail keeps the fly from being entirely unruly
on the cast and retrieve, so don't trim it off.
This one is for still water, as it is
just too unruly for moving water. Cast with a heavy bug line to
structure, then return with as much commotion as possible. A
emphatic, irregular retrieve is most effective in mocking a
struggling wounded creature. Just be careful not to agitate the fly
line too much, or the fish will be spooked. That's it. Just draw
attention, and eventually, one of the larger fish will lose patience
and strike. Just be ready for the water to explode.
