Black Nymph

Though quite unadorned, this little bit of wet fuzz is a real fish catcher,

Hook: Mustad 9671 (2XL wet hook) 10-18
Tail: 2 black wet hackle fibers
Body: black rabbit fur
Wingcase: black goose slip
Throat: black wet hackle fibers
Thread: black monocord

Nothing mysterious here, just a typical nymph with a cemented wingcase. Tie in a full foundation and cement, tie in tail, dub rabbit fur to thread and wrap forward. Half way, tie in goose slip and wrap dubbing forward. Tie in throat, then tie down goose slip and trim. Finish with a wrap knot and cement head and wingcase. Allow to dry.

This is a good year round generic nymph that is easy to tie and quite effective. Most every pond and stream has dark aquatic naiads, and this fly will mimic them all. It's good for clear water and murky as well. There are few places it won't work, and those are the places that nothing seems to work, either because the fish aren't biting or there are no fish. It's quite versatile and can be fished in most any situation where a nymph can be fished. Make a bunch and use them often.
