Cork Daddy

This is a cork bodied daddy longlegs
that sits high on the water and evokes a response.
Hook: Mustad 94845 size 8-14
Thread: Monocord
Body: Balsa, oval
Legs: Horse mane
Glue: 5 minute epoxy
This is pretty simple to make, the legs
being the real tricky part. Shape and slot the body with emory paper
and razor knife. With a needle, apply 4 evenly spaced holes along
each side of the body, pointing upward (away from the shank slot) at
a 60° angle. Uneven spacing can cause horrendous tippet twist
when casting. Wrap a base foundation and tie off with a wrap knot,
cement. When dry, coat with epoxy and apply the body to the hook
shaft. Dip the hair end in the epoxy and insert one strand in each
hole before the epoxy firms. Do not try to do more than one at a
time, as it's a race against the clock to set them in properly. Apply
a kink in the legs, pointing them down and out. Try to make the bends
as symmetrical as possible.
Short casts are to be expected with
this fly. It is quite wind resistant, and forcing the cast will off
balance the fly. So keep the approach as stealthful as possible and
cast to opportune spots like holes and surface structure where the
fish tend to hang out. Be ready for some very splashy strikes
