This Issue's Song : On a Roll
If I ever want to drive another
musician crazy, all I need to do is perform this song, and they are
immediately besides themselves on how to play along. It has a
syncopation in the first half of the verse that is almost impossible
to ad lib. As a rule, I chord with a lot of ninths that I never show
in my tabs, an embellishment I use for variation which can be ignored
most of the time. But the use of them in this song make the
syncopation that much more mystifying. I've have a drummer toss his
drum sticks out an open window in exasperation over this song.
Consequently, I usually perform it solo.
