Big Hills!
My First Ragbrai was one that I'll never forget! I found out about it from a form of the Internet itself and put out a plea for assistance. Bruce Eilers came to my rescue and drove me hundreds of miles from Clinton, the endpoint of the ride to Waterloo, home of the Superior Hawgs. The first morning was my very first encounter with one of the most famous figures of the ride, the Pork Chop man! No Ragbrai® veteran could start a day without hearing "Poooooooooooooooorrrrrrkkkkk Chooooooooopppppps!"

In one of the towns, some of the riders just had not used quite enough energy! I guess I had not lived until I held a pig! (That's me on the right)

The nightly entertainment was stellar! We followed a salza band and even ventured way out of our way to hear them the following night. The bad news is that there were no lights on our bikes to find our way back to town. Oh well.... One town saluted the Ragbrai® with hundreds of Rag- Bras hanging over the road! All good things must end and we were happy to dip our tires in the Mississippi at Clinton, Iowa.

Getting back to Texas, we thought we had it all behind us, but discovered that our next door neighbor had been in Iowa and absconded a banner which was in my front yard when we pulled up!-- Dave
